So who is Martin McGahan, Church Street Health Management’s Chief Restructuring Officer?  Well he’s a director with Alvarez and Marsal – Private Equity Services and more.

Martin McGahan is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Healthcare Industry Group in Atlanta. He brings more than 15 years of healthcare operations and finance experience to the firm.

Mr. McGahan works with healthcare organizations to drive operational and financial performance improvement. In addition, his expertise in corporate finance, restructuring and the raising of capital-including public, private sources of both debt and equity-enables his clients to strategically re-engineer their balance sheets for long-term stability and growth.

Mr. McGahan is presently advising several companies in both the healthcare services and pharmaceutical / bio-technology industries. He is currently serving as Restructuring Advisor to a major provider of Assisted Living Facilities and Senior Housing. He is also advising a Clinical Research Organization on operational restructuring and capitalization alternatives.

Mr. McGahan recently served as Chief Restructuring Officer of Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Centers, a $1.5 billion health system in New York City, which includes several academic medical centers, nursing homes, a home health agency and an off-shore insurance captive. Prior to serving as CRO, he served as CFO of St. Vincent's. As part of this project, he refinanced the system's debt at more favorable rates and terms and supervised the restructuring of the system's financial infrastructure, including the revenue cycle and billing functions, managed care contracts, accounting, treasury, financial reporting and IT platform. St. Vincent's successfully emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy in August 2007.

Previously with A&M, Mr. McGahan took on interim management roles with several troubled healthcare companies, including serving as CFO of World Health Alternatives and Chief Administrative Officer of OCA (Orthodontic Centers of America, Incorporated).

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. McGahan was President, Chief Operating Officer and Board Member of Healthtronics Surgical Services, Inc., a publicly traded provider of outsourced services for hospitals and manufacturer of medical devices. He has spent a majority of his career in healthcare, serving as Vice President of Healthmarket Incorporated, a health insurance provider for individuals and small businesses; Senior Vice President and divisional Chief Financial Officer of Saks Incorporated; the Executive Director of the Alabama Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Clinic; and Director of Business Development at Surgical Care Affiliates Incorporated. He began his career at Chase Manhattan Bank.

Mr. McGahan earned a bachelor's degree from Villanova University and master's degree in business administration from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia.

A history as Chief Administrative Officer for the failed Orthodontic Centers of America? Is this the same OCA, Inc which helped make Case Law in the Fifth Circuit Court in Texas Ruling, that dental service management organizations are in the actual practice of dentistry? Is this the same OCA, Inc which left orthodontic students abandoned, in their professional training?

Is this the same OCA, Inc which left recently graduated orthodontists in Contract limbo, because they were required under contract to work for OCA, Inc, but had no job?


I have a very good idea which Investment Banking Firm brought Mr McGahan on board. What I can't figure out is why the others went along w/ it.
